From the Helm

Perth 2011 staff meet every Monday morning to review what we have achieved to date and plan the week ahead. At the head of the table is a sign that simply states the number of weeks to go – today it is just 91 weeks to go before the World Championships. With the announcement of the Test Event (please see the article in this edition of The Dream Begins in Perth ), we will need a new sign – one that states the number of weeks before the Perth International Regatta (the test event to be held between 16-21 November, 2010) - today it’s 36 weeks to go! It is amazing how time slips away as reflected by the pace of the team’s endeavours. There is a genuine air of excitement and anticipation with the Perth 2011 team, which we detect is now starting to be picked up by the general community.

I commend this month’s edition of The Dream Begins in Perth to you. I hope that as you read it, your excitement level will rise to match ours!

ISAF Delighted With Perth 2011 Progress

The Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships are on track to be the biggest, most exciting sailing Event ever held on Australian waters, according to ISAF Events Manager Alastair Fox.

Visiting Perth this month from the United Kingdom to conduct a review of the progress of the World Championships, Mr Fox said that the dedicated team was ahead of schedule.

Perth 2011 Announces Dates of International Regatta

Perth 2011 and ISAF this month jointly announced the dates of the Perth International Regatta (the main Test Event for the World Championships) - 16 to 21 November, 2010.

Perth 2011 Event Director John Longley said he expected a significant number of the 80 countries that will compete at Perth 2011 to register for the test regatta to ‘practise racing in the unique conditions for which Fremantle is world renowned’.

ENP Athlete Wins and WA Sailor becomes National Champion!

An ENP athlete, RS:X sailor Howard Chang, of Chinese Taipei, has won the 2010 Australian RS:X Championships and a Western Australian sailor, Tim Gourlay, who trains at the Fremantle Sailing Club, has claimed the title of 2010 RS:X Men’s National Champion!
